In high school, I was in the International Baccalaureate program which required me to do a lot of extra work, in addition my to regular school work. One of my IB assignments was an extended essay. We had to choose an academic field and a topic within that field, then write a 3,000 word research paper. I chose to write my essay on a topic in history. In this paper, I investigated the white-female, middle class members in America in the 1950's and if their role as a housewife was one to live up to. This paper, as well as being in the IB program has substantially prepared me for college and its workload. This one being my first big paper, I received a grade of a C+ (from an IB grader), which isn't the best, but I am definitely proud of this piece because it not only taught me more about writing, but also taught me more about the topic and allowed for me to become more open-minded on the American housewife stance.
